Mahipalpur is a village that became a hotel strip. Along the NH-48 service road towards Gurugram, and in the lanes of Mahipalpur Extension behind it, sit well over a hundred small hotels and guesthouses whose single selling point is proximity: Terminal 3 is five kilometres, Terminal 1 nearer four, and a room costs ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 instead of Aerocity's ₹9,000. If you have a 6am flight and a tight budget, this is the rational choice. Nothing else recommends it.
Be clear-eyed about what you are buying. The good properties here are small, clean, tiled, air-conditioned, with a lift, a rooftop restaurant, a 24-hour desk and a free airport pickup. The bad ones are windowless boxes with a plywood door and a shared geyser, and they are photographed to look identical online. Read recent reviews rather than the listing, insist on seeing the room before paying, and expect the ₹1,499 rate to become ₹1,750 with taxes at the desk. Most Mahipalpur hotels include a car to and from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, a 10 to 15 minute run, if you email ahead with your flight number. Get the confirmation in writing and the driver's phone number the night before. If it is not offered, an app cab from T3 is ₹250 to ₹400 and takes 15 minutes.
Several hotels on the NH-48 service road run rooftop restaurants serving north Indian and Chinese until about midnight — butter chicken, dal makhani and beer for ₹600 to ₹900 a head. Mahipalpur sits on the NH-48 out of Delhi, which makes it the logical last or first stop for the Jaipur run — around five hours on the expressway — and a 20-minute hop to Gurugram's Cyber Hub. Self-drive and taxi operators cluster along the service road. Agree the toll and driver allowance in advance in writing.
Qutub Minar is 9 km east, ₹250 to ₹400 by app cab and 25 minutes if you leave by 8am. It opens at sunrise and the first hour is the only quiet one. The adjacent Mehrauli Archaeological Park is free and almost empty, with tombs and stepwells scattered through scrub — wear closed shoes.
The Shiv Murti junction on NH-48, at the northern edge of the strip, has 24-hour dhabas, tea stalls and truckers stopping through the night — parantha and chai for under ₹120. It is grubby, cheap and entirely real. Cross only at the signal; this is a fast highway with no pedestrian courtesy.
